The research introduced a method for evaluating rail corrugation and roughness by analyzing bogie frame vibration data acquired from an in-service tramway vehicle. Results revealed that a simplified approach have yielded accurate results across several wavelength bands. Additionally, It was investigated at how parameters like wheel roughness, lateral positioning, horizontal geometry, wheel-rail contact force, and tramway vehicle vibroacoustic characteristics can influence the evaluation methodology. To improve the suggested approach, future research will address these parameters and implement them into the methodology, as well as optimize the measurement campaign by increasing the number of test runs, minimizing speed variations, and conducting controlled tests.
A special thank you to Hrvatska zaklada za znanost (Croatian Science Foundation) for funding the publication of this paper, Sensornet B.V. for providing raw acceleration data, and Zagrebački električni tramvaj – ZET for allowing us to install the data acquisition system and monitor vibrations on the Zagreb tram network.
